Influence of Rotor Slot Shoulder Angle on the Performance of Cage Induction Motors

Abstract:

Slot shoulder angle in the rotor semi-open slot is used for improving the slot stiffness and motor’s performance. However there are no strict criteria in choosing the angle’s degree and 30° is the most common angle used in the slot designing. In this paper, parallel slot is used as the example for discussing the influence of rotor slot shoulder angle on motor’s performance. Models of motors with different slot shoulder angles are established in time-harmonic field and precise calculations are carried out by 2D finite element method. The effect of rotor slot shoulder angle on the bar resistance and leakage inductance, considered the influence of skin effect, is emphatically investigated. And motor’s performances such as torque, current, rotor copper loss, and rotor eddy current loss are also evaluated. The result for this research could provide a reference in choosing the degree for slot shoulder angle.
