Novel Combined Single Switch Converter with Cascade Boost and Luo Converters

Abstract:

High gain DC-DC converters are increasingly being used in solar PV and other renewable generation systems. Satisfactory steady-state and dynamic performance, along with higher efficiency, are pre-requirement for selecting the converter for these applications. For this reason, a novel combined single switch boost DC-DC converter with cascade boost and Luo converters is designed and implemented. Firstly, the topology and working principle of the new combined converter are described in detail. Then, the proposed converter is compared with other similar converters in various performance parameters. Finally, the system simulation model is established by Matlab, and the simulation results verify the correctness of the theoretical analysis. The proposed converter only uses one power switch, which has continuous input current, can reduce the voltage stress and current stress between switching devices, and can obtain high voltage gain at low duty cycle. Continuous input current is an ideal characteristic of DC-DC converter. The proposed converter is suitable for solar photovoltaic applications.
