Abstract:

Considerable differences exist between conductor icing performance under energized or non-energized conditions, which in large part, lies in the complex interaction between icing and corona discharge. Time dynamic properties of corona discharge in energized icing process could reveal such interaction. Energized icing tests on conductor with several AC field strengths are carried out in the artificial climate chamber. With Q-V trace method, short time period statistical characteristic and long term variance trend of corona properties are obtained such as discharge power and discharge magnitude. Experimental results indicate that the distribution of discharge magnitude approximately belongs to normal distribution; with ice accretion, short time mean value and standard deviation of discharge power and magnitude saturate or slightly reduce after a initial raising period, the turning point of which is relevant to icing velocity influenced by field strength; the discharge maintain voltage increases with larger applied voltage, may resulting in the little increase of discharge magnitude standard deviation under larger applied voltage.
