Influence of Rotor Slot on Additional Loss of Cage Induction Motor

Abstract:

The additional loss plays an important role in motor’s temperature rise and efficiency characteristic, which numeric value is influenced by core structure in motors. In this paper, the cause and calculation method of additional loss in cage induction motor were discussed in details, and the possibility of decrease the additional loss by changing slot’s shape has been analyzed. Models of different rotor slot were established and additional loss in the core and rotor bars were calculated desperately by 2-D finite element method. The conclusion could be obtained by comparison and analysis, the additional loss was influenced by rotor slot, especially the slot’s width. It means that, optimization of rotor slot could be taken as an effective method for reducing motor’s additional loss.
