Abstract:

Due to the complex leakage electromagnetic field in the large submersible motor, it is difficult but also important to calculate the loss and temperature of the motor end region precisely. In this paper, the three dimensional (3D) coupled magnetic-thermal analysis model of submersible motor end region was established. The eddy current field and the magnetic field distribution were obtained by the finite element method, and the characteristics of the temperature distributions of the end structures were also analyzed. The eddy current of the pressboard as well as the surface loss of the end shield and frame was evaluated. Based on the electromagnetic analysis of end region, an improved shape of the stator pressboard was proposed for loss and temperature reduction. Finally, both the loss and temperature distributions of the end structures were compared in detail between the improved and the original. The results indicated that motor with improved stator pressboard could reduce both the loss and temperature-rise of the end region for water filling submersible motor. The useful conclusions could provide a reference for further optimization designs of large water filling submersible motors.
