Design of Integrated Axial Fan for Communication Equipment

Abstract:

Low voltage axial flow fans are widely used in the heat dissipation system of electronic equipment. The fan is usually required to be small in volume, large in air flow and integrated speed regulation. A 12 V permanent magnet brushless axial flow fan is designed for server cooling system applications. First, the fan blade, permanent magnet brushless DC motor and sensorless controller of axial flow fan are designed. The fan blade adopts 8-piece C4 airfoil, the motor adopts 4-machine 8-slot external rotor permanent magnet brushless dc motor, and the tooth groove torque and heat dissipation distribution of the motor are studied. The controller adopts sensorless square wave control and three-stage starting technology. Then, ANSYS finite element software is used to analyze the structural strength and mode of the axial flow fan. Finally, the axial flow fan is manufactured and the experimental platform is built. The performance of the fan controller, mechanical characteristics of the motor, wind pressure and flow rate of the fan blade are tested. Experimental results verify that the rated output torque and speed of the motor meet the requirements which the efficiency reaches 92%, and the fan blades meet the wind pressure and air volume required by the operating point.
